Summer Hair Dos & Don’ts For All Vacations!
Hey, SIs…
We all know a good Vacation needs 4 things:
the sun, a great playlist, vibey outfits, and effortless hair!
So, I grew up three hours away from the the most beautiful panhandle beaches of Alabama and Florida; it was a luxury I took for granted because I no longer have that living in San Antonio. Now I just dream of them by my pool listening to my 2020 Beach Playlist. Anyways, my summer playlists consist of some good throwbacks, Morgan Wallen (shout out to Sarah Hair Candy if you’re reading this), and anything sing-along-worthy! If you disagree, just mind ya business!
THE DOS…
Do keep a leave-in and brush on deck at all times! The Un.Tangled is a UV protectant and a detangler which will protect your hair color and keep your extensions from matting. Spray your Un.Tangled throughout your hair and gently brush before your beach outing or outdoors activity! For extra protection, I still recommend wearing a hat!
Do wear your hair in tight braids or a neat, ballerina bun on the top of your head to prevent hard-core tangles and matting. I see it every summer—you’re on a Bachelorette Trip at the beach or lake and the wind is blowing, you feel like JLo, and are downing High Noons without a care in the world. Till you get home to shower and realize you have a small animal entangled itnto your row. FYI ***THIS MEANS YOU NEED NEW HAIR***
Let’s NOT do this ^ Just put your hair in some cutie braids and think about the future you and how thankful she’ll be you thought of her ;)
DO remember that chlorine is a chemical and it is not hair friendly. I recommend applying your Un.Tangled mid to ends and then tightly securing your hair in a braid or ponytail.
DO contact me immediately if your hair gets matted or turns orange. Don’t try to be the superhero here. You may be able to work out the matting with a fine tooth comb but still contact your stylist to be safe.
DO keep up with your regular hair care routine. If you’re traveling, take your Mini Murphys with you for emergency hair washing. Sticking to your normal routine will keep your hair from getting dry or worn from common summer activities.
THE DON’TS…
DON’T use just any sunscreen. The quality and type of sunscreen you use matters, especially for hair extensions! Be aware of the ingredient Azobenzene.
When I’m traveling in the summer I always have these two things in my beach bag… Mineral based sunscreen like: Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen, Sun Bum Mineral SPF 50 Sunscreen or Coola Mineral Body Organic Sunscreen. and Un.Tangled by Kevin Murphy and here’s why. You have to protect your investment. Most Sunscreens have chemicals that will turn your extensions orange or peach colored (AZOBENZENE). This is why the correct sunscreens are so important.
DON’T go in the sun without using a heat protectant in your hair. Heat protectants can protect your hair from the heat of the sun, too! I like to lather up with Un.Tangled before spending the day in the sun.
DON’T leave your hair braided after you get out of the water. Quickly remove braids, rinse in freshwater, apply more leave-in and gently brush out. Sometimes braids can tangle your hair so follow these steps to prevent that.
DON’T ignore hair matting if it happens. dude, I get it, sometimes matting is inevitable. Bring your wet brush and a fine tooth comb with you on vacation. The comb is the best tool to slowly work out that matting if it does happen. Leave-in, freshwater and consistent brushing will be your triple threat this summer to prevent matting of any kind.
